Get a long sheet of butcher paper and draw several simple, easily recognizable pictures or symbols on it. Sit down with your children with the sheet of paper. Have the children sit around the paper and look at the first picture/symbol. Pretending that they are Native Americans, have them create a story which relates to the illustration. Continue with other illustrations.
Once they have told their stories, have several children carry the paper over to the art area. After circle time encourage the children to add more designs and symbols or pictures. Write the children's names near their drawings.
After several days, bring the paper back to story time and allow each child to tell a story about the drawings that they made!
